Ice Cold In Cyprus

Always expect the unexpected. When it’s hot in Cyprus, it’s very hot. When it’s cold, it’s usually damp as well. And when it’s dusty, the dust gets everywhere.

Last summer was hot. In the last eight months the local council have had the road dug up to re-surface with little stone tiles. Apparently it looks pretty for the tourists. What tourists? I’ve only seen one in two years. But dig it up they have and it’s taken eight months to refurface and bury the water, electric and various other cables and whatnots. During that time, it was one of the hottest summers I’ve experienced in over sixteen years living in Cyprus. And the dust was horrendous.

Never mind my health suffering, my poor old laptop has not been happy. Which is a problem for someone who likes to write a few thousand words a day. My laptop is old, about four years old. Believe me, that is old for a laptop that’s had a writer hammering away at it for years. So, because the laptop keyboard is suffering, I bought a new super-duper keyboard and mouse as well as a new external monitor. Now it’s a lot easier to writer because the keyboard is more responsive (actually works) and I can get on with my writing. But, the laptop has suffered from the heat, dust, damp and cold, not to mention my joints and muscles aching from the damp and cold and my chest suffering because of the dust. In other words, we, laptop and me, are suffering a little this winter and it’s taking a lot to get us going in the morning.

I’m not too bad after a coffee, but laptops and coffee are a no-no. So here I sit, waiting for it to warm up. I think I’ll have to wrap it up before I go to bed in future. It obviously feels the cold and damp more than I do.
