Lymphoplasmacytic Lymphoma Cancer

Me being me, it had to be I develop a rare cancer. Lymphoplasmacytic Lymphoma develops slowly and affects mostly older adults, yes dear reader, I admit it, I’m old, but still feel like a twenty-something in my head so that will have to suffice.

In lymphoma, white blood cells grow out of control because of a mutation. In Lymphoplasmacytic Lymphoma, abnormal B lymphocytes reproduce in my bone marrow and displace healthy blood cells, therefore degrading my body’s immune system.

But never mind, I get up each day, do my thing and pop the pills. I go to chemo once a week and check my lymph nodes regularly. Now here is the sting in the tail. Lymphomas are cancers of the lymph system, a part of the immune system. So, my cancer is attacking my immune system as well as the chemo, which isn’t too choosy about which cell it wants to kill. Double whammy indeed.

In my case the cancer is treatable and is being treated. In fact, it’s working as is proven by my spending most of last weekend in my bathtub. I developed that famous pain in the backside last Friday evening. The pain was in my right hip and I could get no relief from it, painkillers didn’t work. Only heat dissipated that pain. So, it was a hot bath, hot water bottle and a lot of pain with little or no sleep.

Yesterday my doctor confirmed the pain was due to the softening of the bones, almost to being brittle and to potentially break if I did heavy lifting or exercise. She also prescribed Tramadol for pain relief, but I’m not touching them unless the need is dire. The last thing any writer needs is to have a befuddled brain. And that is my next problem with this pain in the bum.

Another downside, most doctors don’t consider, is I cannot sit and write for too long. So, all my writing projects are on hold except blog pieces like this which don’t require more than an hour to complete.

Today I’m having a calcium injection. And the way the doctor said this yesterday, with a subtle raised eyebrow makes me think I may be in for some pain.

Pain in the bum? Bring it on if it cures the cancer.

Synopsis

A young Magda Asparov travels alone from her home in Ukraine to America, to marry Matthew Turner, an unscrupulous American businessman. It’s an arranged marriage and part of the dowry is land in America the Asparovs own. But this parcel of land holds a secret only Turner is aware of. It has a huge reservoir of oil beneath it.
Magda’s journey is cut-short when her ship, the Titanic, hits an iceberg & sinks.
Magda is rescued by another ship, captained by Richard Blackmore.

In the ship’s sickbay, it’s discovered the survivor has lost her memory. The crew of the rescue ship give the survivor a name, Maggie, to use until her memory returns. But as the ship sails to New York a new personality in Maggie takes hold, stifling Magda in the process.
On reaching New York, Maggie accepts Captain Blackmore’s offer of help and occupies Blackmore’s guest room in his apartment. But over time, the couple fall in love.

Meanwhile, Matthew Turner feels Magda is still alive and has unleashed his henchman, William Harker, a crook, con artist, money shark and murderer. Turner hates to feel his investment has slipped through his fingers and is keen to track Magda down and keep alive his hopes of cashing in on her oil field. Harker is told to find any trace of Magda among the survivors arriving in New York.

Harker discovers Magda is alive but is unaware of who she is. Harker makes his plans to snatch Magda away from Blackmore. Leaving Blackmore as collateral damage and his life in ruins.

Reviews

“This one has it all – mystery, corruption, murder, kidnapping, love, revenge. Don’t plan to read it as a stand alone. You’ll definitely want the next books in the trilogy because the ending of book one is a cliff hanger. I couldn’t put this book down although I became so worried about the fate of Blackmore I had to regroup myself. Tom Kane did one helluva job writing this set.”

“This book has everything Romance, Murder, Mystery which automatically hooks you to the story.”

“Set against the backdrop of early 20th century America, an incredible story of love, loss, injustice, perseverance, mental illness & heartbreak.”

“A fictional romp through history, full of well-written twists & turns.
An arranged marriage, tragic love story & a bad guy you’ll love to hate.”
