Welcome to The Storyline.
The Storyline is a newsletter that has taken fifteen years of gestation before finally being born and allowed out to greet you. I know, sounds dramatic, but in some ways it has to be dramatic. It’s a newsletter from an indie author who writes historical fiction, so it has to be a little bit dramatic.
So, without further ado, what have I got to offer you from now on? Although I’ll be writing mainly about my books and my writing in general, I will also be writing about other interesting news on books. For example, have you heard about a new kind of book purchasing system that’s opened in the UK? Bookloop is a scheme for readers to trade in their unwanted books for online credit or to purchase other novels. Bookloop comes from Bookshop.org which is an online platform for indie booksellers.
Customers scan and upload their books to an online valuation system. Once this is completed, they drop them off at a DPD collection point or they can be picked up from their home. In return they get credit to be used on new titles.
h operates in France, Germany, Austria, Sweden and the UK. They apparently processes over 10,000 books a day.
Bookshop describe themselves as “a socially-conscious way to buy books online.” Seems like a great idea.
As for my scribblings, I’m hoping most of you have read some of my blog posts, even if you haven’t actually read any of my books. These posts on my website, fictionbooks.online will continue, but I will be writing more pieces like those, but they will be exclusively published in this newsletter, not on my blog. Then there are my books, The Brittle Saga Trilogy, Operation Werwolf, The Demon Detective Agency and one or two others which you can discover when you visit my website. I shall be giving updates on these books and news of my upcoming titles to be published. For example, I haven’t mentioned Walking Away from Midnight. This is a World War 2 thriller, published in May 2024 and featuring young Cambridge graduate Jessie Fordham, who finds herself in dire straits and up to her neck in spies in France at the outbreak of the war. This book is the first in a series of seven called The Midnight Series, which are planned for release over the next three years.
Book two in the Midnight Series is Midnight’s Child. I’m three quarters into writing this book and on schedule to publish in December 2024. It’s such great fun creating new adventures for Jessie Fordham, soon to be agent Midnight in the Special Operations Executive.
While we are on the subject of Walking Away from Midnight, something I intend doing in the next newsletter, is a competition. It will be super easy to enter and you can win one of five digitally signed copies of Walking Away from Midnight. I have never done a book signing before, so one day these five books may be worth a fortune, but then again probably not. If you’ve already read that book, then I’m happy to email something else if you prefer, and I’ll even sign it. But that’s for the next newsletter.
Until then, I hope you like the idea of The Storyline newsletter from me and I appreciate you waiting 15 years to read it. I promise, it will be a lot less time waiting for the next newsletter.
