Saving the Kitten

Rescued a tiny kitten today from under my car at my holiday apartment. A friend of a friend is in the cat rescue business and it’s at the vet’s suffering from malnutrition and dehydration.
The poor thing’s back legs had been stuck to glue sticks so it couldn’t find food and was abandoned by its mother. So sad.

Two days have passed with the kitten, a male, at the vets who have struggled to keep the poor animal alive. Sadly, Saturday morning he passed away.

He was a fighter to the end and had managed to drag himself from one side of the road to my side before finding shelter from the sun under my car. His bag legs had been stuck to glue sticks, a practice illegal in the EU, for catching songbirds to eat in a local delicacy, I use the word advisedly. Other animals, like the kitten, as well as many other types of birds die needlessly each year because some people believe the law does not apply to them.

Animal welfare groups, UK military SBA (Sovreign Base Area) and the CJPU (Cyprus Joint Police Unit) all contribute to stamp this barbaric act out. Tradition, a strong force in Cyprus, is a difficult thing to work against.
