Eyesight is so important. It’s something most of us take for granted until something happens to us that puts our health into a new perspective.
Eyesight
Today I’ve had my photograph taken. No big deal you may think, dear reader. Except it wasn’t a straightforward photograph, this was a snap of my eyeballs, going right down to the minutest blood vessels to see if I have bleed. The ophthalmic clinic in Limassol used orange dye (fluorescein) which was intravenously injected and then snapshots were taken, from top to bottom, left to right on both eyes.
The problem is I’m a diabetic and have been for many years. Diabetics have a greater chance of going blind than normal people, especially if they don’t take care of themselves. Luckily, I take really good care of my diet and everything else associated with my health. So, the good news is my sight is okay, but, I have a potential problem in both eyes because blood isn’t getting to the edges of the eye. So, it’s laser treatment now. A few quick blasts and I should be as right as rain.
The only problem is the fluorescein. It’s left an awful taste in my mouth, my breath is like rancid Kangeroo breath and my pee is so yellow it looks like I’ve been eating yellow banana skins. Oh, and apparently I’ll turn yellow for a couple of days.
The joys of old age.
