Laser treatment for a bleed in my eye was to be simple and painless. My eye doctor didn’t say he was shoving a lightsabre in my eye and waggling it about.
A few weeks ago I had laser eye surgery in my left eye to remove a few black floaters that have been impairing my vision. My eye doctor said it would be painless and it was. I felt the tiniest of pinpricks and after about ten minutes it was done. The eye doctor also found some bleeds at the back of the eye and suggested laser eye treatment could seal the bleeds. Being a diabetic, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your vision… sorry, couldn’t resist the pun. So, two weeks later I was back in the surgery and happy to have someone blast my eyes with a laser. While I sat, patiently waiting, I couldn’t stop the odd image in my head of my eye doctor being Darth Vader in disguise.
When I was called in I was quite happy, confident and chatty. When I left I was a trembling wreck. The eye surgery was not painless, far from it. Though, to be fair, my eye doctor had not said this particular treatment was going to be painless. Thinking back on it, off course it was never going to be painless. He was cauterising blood vessels to stop the blood leaking into my eyes. Yes, it was going to be painful.
After about forty minutes of having Darth’s lightsabre shoved in both eyes, my eyes were streaming and as sore as hell. That was Thursday. Today is Monday and my right eye is bloodshot and weeping. I’m dripping in Yellox (to treat inflammation in the eye) in three times a day, but I’m not able to read or write for long periods of time because my eyes get very sore.
Oh well, at least it’s over with… until my next appointment in August. My eye doctor will probably use the Death Star on me next time.
