Computers! Who needs Them?

Last Updated on June 18, 2022 by ADMIN-TOM

Having bought three new PCs about three months ago it was hard to understand why two of them were whisper quiet and yet the third, mine as it turns out, was quite loud. Well, this afternoon I had the chance to find out why. I switched it on as normal and nothing happened. The power supply was dead. That little box that sits inside your PC was no more, it had shuffled off this mortal coil.

So, I took the power supply out of a really old PC we bought years ago from PC World and shoved it into my new PC. It works a treat and it’s a silent as the proverbial grave. Power supplies, unlike graphics cards aren’t really very sexy technology, but without a good PSU (Power Supply Unit) you’re PC’s going to suffer long term.

In my experience, and I’ve built a number of PCs, the power supply is usually fairly hefty. Not so the dead one, it was as light as a feather, which probably means it’s pretty inferior. Not up to the job in Cyprus, which can be a very dusty place. Now I have to go out and buy a new PSU in case the replacement dies. Not as easy as you may think in Cyprus.

One step forward, two back.
