A few years ago, I reported on a fire near my then home. In the summer fires are a big, and sometimes deadly issue in Cyprus. Last year we had fires being set deliberately in this area and for several weeks the fires came thick and fast, one after the other. Most days we heard Fire Helicopters, and Fire Planes followed by ground crews.
A lot of blazes are due to careless smokers. But the year of the big blaze at my old place was definitely due to kids and cigarettes… but then adults and cigarettes are just as bad
I must admit, I am amazed the island isn’t a blackened cinder as most people seem to smoke.
